This painting captures the skyline with Pikes Peak and Mount Herman from the Greenland Open Space Trail. There are plenty of rustic log of benches to sit and enjoy the view of the mountains, foothills, rolling cattle fields, and wildflowers. This trail exists in southern Douglas County and is between the two small Colorado towns Palmer Lake and Larkspur.
Greenland Open Space is one of my all-time favorite running trails in the area. It’s also ideal for hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and horseback riding. Wildflowers are abundant here year-round. Currently the trail is shared with grazing and mostly friendly cattle May through September. This is also the site of the new “Greenland Trail Race“, where you can choose to run a 50k, 25k, 8-mile or 4-mile trail race.
