9×12″ Watercolor by Jamie Wilke
This watercolor is a late winter landscape of a Colorado mountain ranch in Tabernash, Colorado called Devils Thumb Ranch. It is a working cattle ranch and also an upscale cross country ski resort. The snow-covered riverbed in the foreground is decorated with tall, bright red woody brush. Moose are known to frequent them, and once I was lucky enough to see two adult moose while I was cross country skiing. I was happy to be going at a swift downhill pace at the time!
The view in this painting is what you see when you’re looking east from the nordic ski trails at Devils Thumb Ranch. You can also see this view from the nordic ski trails at theYMCA’s Snow Mountain Ranch. Tabernash is a small ranch town 8 miles northeast of Winter Park and Fraser, it is south of Grandby, Grand Lake, and Estes Park.
